Mountain Lake Beach & Summer Recreation status
The majority of the discussion at the June 4th committee meeting involved the environmental health of Mountain Lake, the status of the summer recreation program, and opening of the municipal beach. We thank everyone who attended, and for your contributions to the conversation.
Lake health: The Harmful Algae Bloom is still present. The Township, Environmental Commission, Recreation Commission, and Mountain Lake Association are all working on this. The municipal beach will not be able to open with the current toxin levels. Should the levels come down to meet standards, the next challenge will be operating under the state's COVID guidelines. That will be discussed further if/when the HAB is corrected.
Summer Recreation: The State Department of Health has not yet issued the requirements under which youth camp/programs will be allowed to operate. We are promised every day that they will be released "soon". There has been extensive discussion among the Recreation Commission, the summer program director and the County Health Department. We are all committed to trying to make it work, if we can do so safely and within reason. A final decision will be made after we see the state requirements.
